What's your Dasavatharam personality ?

krishnaveni_kamal.jpg

In the first viewing, I like the Krishnaveni motta-paati more than anyone else. Yeah, better than Balram Naidu and Poovaraagan. Balram Nadiu was definitely an accomplishment but it was too easy to play for someone as versatile as Kamal.

The paati on the other hand was off-beat, even though we have seen Kamal play a middle aged woman with an utmost ease in Avai Shanmugi. Paati’s plastic face was scary at times, but the characterisation, intonation and the slang was just so perfect.

What’s your favorite avatar of Dasavathaaram ?

P.S – And I hope someone would actually creates a personality quiz named – What’s your Dasavathaaram Personality ?. I’m sure the Aascar team will be happy for it.

  1. About the movie I havent watched it yet. But I have heard only 2 reviews from friends & family – either hate it or love it. And btw, the rajni fans in my F&F love it :))…

  2. Fletcher’s role was off beat I think.

some one had commented in an other blog about him copying the T2 villain. I saw no such thing when I saw the movie.

    thoroughly enjoyed it.

  3. LG, Me too. Patti wins hands down. Initially I thought Paati is going to be the worst interms of make up and voice. AFter a point of time when Paati carries Aravamudhan’s photo in her hands and joins inncocently in the hunt with Balram(Mutindu varudhu :)). I came to know that Paati was downsized in graphics & using miniature sets while listening to KSR in Vijay TV. Kudos to the team for pulling it off ….

  4. I loved all of them. I think the dalit character simply becuase i never felt it was kamal not even once. Hats off to the legend

  5. Boovaraagan…
not just for the sake of adding a comment..
he has striking resemblences to krishna-
the color and the way he saves asin in the opening shot, occasional leadership and humanitarian touches he displays in the form of dialogues. more importantly, kabilan’s lines break even the toughest of the tough…

    my crown off 😉

  7. Balram Reddy reminded me of Kamal’s Indran Chandran movie where he plays a similar character.
I liked Patti whenever she was not shown in close up, else her plastic face was too scary!

Boovaraghavan just ruled the roost. It was a new slang by Kamal, but he executed the role perfectly. And yeah, Kabilan was u.n.b.e.l.i.e.v.a.b.l.e.!

  8. i loved POOVARAGAN…
manne pathi manne pathi paadunu sonniye…
unne pathi paadumbothu nee uyirode illaye…
mostly evry1 in the theatre cried…

  9. Engooru thamizh pesinathaala Poovaraghan!!! Perfect slang…Btw it is not nellai thamizh as rest of tamizhnadu knows. it is proper nagercoil slang(has a lot of malayalam words into it).

  10. Engooru thamizh pesinathaala Poovaraghan!!! Perfect slang…Btw it is not nellai thamizh as rest of tamizhnadu knows. it is proper nagercoil slang(has a lot of malayalam words into it – kamal uses many).

  12. My favourites are
    Rangarajan Nambi,
    Balram Naidu
    Fletcher,
    Krishnaveni Patti,
    Vincent Poovaraghan,
    Japnese guy,
    Bush,
    Avtar Singh,
    Kalifulla khan,
    Govind,

in that order. A true master piece by kamal !

  13. I liked Rangarajan Nambi and Balram Naidu the best. Patti was good, reminded me of mylapore tank area but the make up was hideous! Kalifulla khan and Avtar singh was more like a fancy dress entry and what was the story of the bullet taking the cancer away… that was like a cheap copy of vijaykanth movie!!

  14. Preethi,
That was an inspiration from MGR’s life apparently. Since he got shot in the throat but still his voice did not go away. What i dont understand is why people are analysing this movie so much sure it has its flaws but let me tell u that most of the movies have flaws even sivaji had plenty. This was an entertainer and worth a watch for sure.

  15. My personal favourite is Balram, anna…it was a classy performance from Kamal (Crazy included)…

    My Top Ten (In Order)

    1. Balram (Provided the much needed humour)
    2. Khafiullah (Tall and Simple – A personal choice)
    3. Japanese Guy ( Great Body Language by Kamal)
    4. Govind (With 9 subs, Kamal managed the lead with ease)
    5. Paati (Her antics are loveable)
    6. Fletcher (What a man? My second best villian after Parattai)
    7. Poovaragavan ( Character withstanding, I thought he was a jolt in the story)
    8. Avtar Singh (Quite a neat one)
    9. Rangarajan Nambi ( Loose & quick narration does him in)
    10. George Bush ( Un Necessary. I would have rather had him play Napolean character)

  17. rahtnavel, correct he should have played kulothunga chozhan (without any kind of masks and minimal make-ups to distniguish from nambi) instead of bush and possibly, one of the sand mafia as well. Definitely those characters had more depth and possibilities than Khalifullah.

Wonder why nobody around him could spot this no brainer. Maybe, sand mafia role would have required more graphics because more kamals in same scene but Kulothunga hardly has a combination shot with Nambi so that should have been easily achievable. not only that he could have saved some cost on the makeup.

  18. RANGARAGAN NAMBI- hard work,
    PRESIDENT BUSH – stylish performance,
JAPNESE -impressive body language & stunts,
CHRISTIAN FLETCHER – to show the “cruelty of a villain”,
    BALRAM NAIDU- sense of humour,
    AVTHAAR SINGH- song & dance,
KRISHNAVENI PATTI-make up & voice modulation,
VINCENT BOOVARAGAN – strong message to the world,
KALIFULLAH KHAN – special effects (to show him as a 8ft T MAN),
GOVIND RAMASAMY – to show humanitarism & rationalism.

In this way I can order his charecters. These are the aspects I personaly extracted from his 10 charecters.this film is a roller coaster entertainer from kamal hassan, another box-office hit by this legendary actor.

  21. Kamal actually played 11 roles…

Would anyone believe he played 11 roles ?!… The monkey that died in the lab in US is also played by Kamal – this news was intended to be released in the 100th day celebrations but I got to know thru an insider info…

Jokes apart the movie had several unnecessary characters done by Kamal. My vote goes to one and only Balram Naidu and the Lab monkey

  22. “kai naatti paatti” by vayyapuri, doesn’t go well with this kainaatti patti using english words,….” Ulle “comfortable” aa ille”
